Sometime in 1997, Bo Sanchez, international Catholic lay preacher and bestselling author held a Kerygma Rally at the Divine Mercy Church in Marilao, Bulacan which was then under Fr. Vic Robles (Alvin’s first Spiritual Director). The church is now the National Shrine of the Divine Mercy. Alvin was then music ministry head-servant of River of Life, a Catholic Charismatic Community based at the Divine Mercy under Dr. Gilbert, “Popsy” Vilela (Alvin’s first head-servant and community spiritual counselor). Alvin was already very visible for the Divine Mercy mainly giving his healing testimony in most events of the church. In this Kerygma Rally, Alvin again gave his testimony and as usual, sang his original songs of healing and inspiration.
Bo must have remembered Alvin well on that occasion. About a year after, Bo would come up with his first music album, “Build Your Throne”. Two Filipino-Tagalog songs written by Bo were in the album. Alvin, enthralled at meeting and hearing Bo for the first time in that rally, started to attend the FEAST at Camp Aguinaldo - and became a “silent and determined disciple” of Bo. Bo needed a singer to sing his Tagalog songs. He invited Alvin. That invitation started a continuing friendship and a blessed partnership that would go on to this day.
In 2004, Bo gathered his friends who were leaders and preachers outside of his Light of Jesus Community. Alvin and wife Tes were invited to join the group. From this fellowship came about the KERYGMA Preachers. Alvin is now gratefully and proudly one of them.
Kerygma is a Greek word for “proclamation of the Good News”. It is also, of course, the name of the no. 1 inspirational magazine in the Philippines founded by Bo as its publisher and editor-in-chief. It must be from these that Bo coined the name “KERYGMA Preachers”.

Bro. Alvin Barcelona’s Most Delivered Talks
Aside from being invited to give talks to Catholic Life in the Spirit Seminars (from topics on “God’s Love” to “Transformation” – or depending on how they are sequenced – and onward to Growth or Maturing in the Spirit Seminars (or however they are called) the following topics and themes have become Bro. Alvin’s favorite and most requested talks:

1. My Job, My Mission – probably Bro. Alvin’s most delivered talk in years and to most groups nationwide including CEAP schools, companies including Jollibee Luzon (as invited by and partnered with Bro. Bo Sanchez), and to professional groups including insurance agents, med-reps, nurses, environmentalists, artists, and above all, teachers and educators; If you want to know whether your JOB is your MISSION this talk is for you (and for your group). Also learn in this seminar why your JOB should be linked to your MISSION – otherwise, you’re wasting a big amount of your life! Above all, if you’re sure that your JOB now is your MISSION, this talk will add PASSION and FLOW to it! * option of whole day or half day talk w/ activities
2. Music for GOD – given to countless music ministries, church choirs, and Christian musicians here and abroad, Bro. Alvin brings in this seminar his long years of professional experience as a multi-awarded artist-musician to the ministry of music for God; learn that GOD deserves only our best as even the old testament history of musicians will tell you; get actual tips in band playing from Bro. Alvin’s band, “Himaya”; pour in your passion and skill in “singing a new song to the Lord”! Above all, learn that “tuning in to the Lord” as a musician importantly means “tuning in your life to Him”. *option of whole day or half day talk; with workshop option
3. Discovering My Personal Mission: My SHAPE, My PASSION – a version of “My Job, My Mission”, this seminar is tailored for the youth, especially graduating students who are discerning what course or path to take not just for further studies (college) but for their future lives. * half day talk w/ activities
4. Setting Out Into the Deep – mostly given to graduating students (high school or college) this talk will also speak deeply to anyone who is about to “set out into deeper waters”; Learn why Jesus instructed Simon Peter and the rest to set out again after a night of “no-catch”, know where the “big fish” is, how not to sink after the “big catch”, and how to be ready to “leave behind the big catch” for a greater mission! Or did I just give out the talk? Believe me, there’s more…
* half day talk w/ activities
5. The Art of Christian Persuasion – Heard of Dr. M. Griffin? Mind Changers? Inoculation Theory? Psychological Reactance? If you’re finding difficulty expressing yourself effectively, and persuading others (because they keep on blocking you off or screening you most of the times) this seminar must be for you (and your group). Combining Dr. M. Griffin’s basic principles in effective communication and persuasion with Bro. Alvin’s long and professional experience as a public speaker (Bro. Alvin was a UST college scholar not because of his grades but by winning a National Oratorical Contest), this seminar is highly recommended for leaders and/or speakers both in church and professional groups. *option of whole day or half day talk; with workshop options
6. Everyday Heroes of God / Experiencing God in the Present Moment – discover in this seminar that you don’t need to be a religious – a priest, a nun, a pastor or “an active church member” to experience deep spirituality; (But if you’re a religious and an active church member please continue to do so and allow us to benefit much from your spirituality.) Discover the miracle of “finding God in all things” (St. Ignatius), and the Sacrament of the Present Moment (Jeanne Pierre de Caussade). Re-learn in this seminar that God can be so much present in everything you do, whoever you are! *1 hour talk
7. Coming Home – Have you ever wondered why every man, wherever he is, eventually longs for home? Journey with Bro. Alvin’s personal and amusing story of how he got lost as a kid in the middle of “Quiapo Market”, how he got home, and the valuable lessons he learned from that simple, real-life incident. Listen to why Paul calls our earthly dwellings – a tent – and how glorious it really is to COME HOME! ...the Parable of the Prodigal Son retold! An ideal talk for the Lenten Season.* 1 hour talk
8. YOU NEED HEALING! – So you’re healed. AMEN! I believe you. I too was healed – Miraculously! Dramatically! But believe me - You need to be continuously healed! All of us need to be continuously healed! And we have to tell HIM! (Or have you ever wondered why JESUS needed to ask a blind man, “What do you want me to do for you?”) This talk will powerfully tell you why we need to be constantly healed, how and for what purpose. * 1 hour talk
9. Prayer: Surrendering to God’s Will – I’m sure you had prayers that were answered instantly. But I’m also sure that you have prayers that until now remain unanswered. Moreover, you must have had prayers that were not and will never be answered. (Have you prayed for somebody’s healing but he died anyway?) This talk will simply but powerfully remind you that when we pray – we pray to GOD, and we are His SERVANTS! Not the other way around! Read Elijah’s prayer. Read the leper’s prayer. Or listen to this talk and know what “Let God, Let go, Let flow” means! * 1 hour talk
10. Prayers that Move Mountains: A Life-Healing Testimony – Yes, prayers still do that. Have you read about King Hezekiah who wept bitterly and was added 15 years to his life? How about the widow’s persistent “prayer”? Remember the woman afflicted with hemorrhage for twelve years? Didn’t they “move their mountains” with their prayers? Listen to Bro. Alvin’s amazing life testimony and how these biblical accounts of powerfully answered prayers are applied to his healing story! Believe… and be healed! * 1 hour talk
